Hi, I saw your post about walking your dog in Beauregard Town. I’m a history buff – have been doing research on the Beauregard family. Thought you might want to know that Captain Elias Beauregard died in 1809, but left many lots in Beauregard Town to his children. In 1813, 4 of his 5 children donated 8 lots to the city for construction of a courthouse. These children were Bartholemi, Manuel, Victoire (wife of Patrice Leonard), and Maria Rosa (who later married Pedro Santiogo Guesnon). Bartholemi Toutant Beauregard stayed on in Beauregard Town for the rest of his life. He was shown as white on the census records, but had a mulatto wife named Constance or Constantia. His children were shown as mulatto in the census records as well. I have not identified all of his children yet, but 3 were Bartholemi Jr., Jacques and Eli. He may have had daughters or grandaughters named Alice (who married Louis Sharp) and Laura (who married Eugene Barnes). Bartholemi was listed as a merchant with property valued at $12,000 in 1850, which was quite a sum. He died in 1860 and his son Eli took over the business. Eli was married to Armentine LeBlanc and she was also mulatto. I wonder where his store was? I wonder which lot in Beauregard Town was his? Beauregard Town was very diverse before the Civil War. I’ll have to check out the property records.
